The mission of the Kennebunkport One Dollar Project is to harness the success of lodging properties in Kennebunkport to give substantial support for good works in our local, regional, national and global communities.

Kennebunkport has been an international destination for over one hundred years. First incorporated as a fishing village in the early 1600's, by the 1800's it had become a center for shipbuilding and a bustling port of foreign trade. As shipbuilding declined, summer homes and hotels became increasingly popular, and by the 1880's, Kennebunkport had become one of the most prominent resorts of the Maine coast, a distinction it still holds today.

The innkeepers of Kennebunkport bed and breakfasts, inns, hotels and resorts are intimately familiar with our coastal village's ties to its communities. In each season we warmly welcome guests from other towns and cities in Maine, New England, all over the United States, and abroad. We share with them the pleasures of southern Maine, and we hear stories of their hometowns. Now, through the One Dollar Project, we can share not only our love of lighthouses and lobster, but also the prosperity the destination of Kennebunkport has experienced, by giving it back.

For each night a room is reserved at a participating property, that property will contribute one dollar to the Kennebunkport One Dollar Project. That one dollar will then be donated to organizations doing good in our local, regional, national and international communities.
